The great majority of questions on the GRE are multiple-choice, with five answer options (A through E). You will not be allowed to use a calculator on the GRE; however, some test centers may provide one if you specifically request it. The length of the exam is 3 hours 45 minutes, with one scheduled 10-minute break. The total score range is 130-170 for each section (Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning). 610 for the analytical writing. The verbal reasoning section contains two 30-minute sections, each with 20 questions. The Quantitative reasoning section contains two 35-minute sections, each with 20 questions. The analytical writing section contains two 30-minute sections, each with one essay question. The experimental section is not scored, and it can be either a verbal reasoning section or a quantitative reasoning section. The time allotted for this section is 30 or 35 minutes, depending on the section type. There are no penalties for incorrect answers on the GRE; however, the questions you answer incorrectly will not count towards your score. The GRE is offered year-round at Prometric test centers, and you can take it once every 21 days, up to five times within any 12-month period. You can reschedule or cancel your test date up to four days before your test date. You will receive an unofficial score report for the verbal reasoning and quantitative reasoning sections immediately after completing the exam. The official score report, which includes your analytical writing score, will be available 10-15 days after your test date. The GRE is a computer-adaptive test, meaning that the difficulty of the questions you receive will change based on your performance. The first section of each subject (verbal and quantitative) is of medium difficulty. If you perform well on the first section, the second section will be more difficult. If you perform poorly on the first section, the second section will be easier. The GRE is valid for five years after your test date. You can send your scores to up to four universities for free. If you want to send your scores to more than four universities, you will have to pay an additional fee. There are many resources available to help you prepare for the GRE, including official study guides, practice tests, and online courses. Many universities offer GRE preparation courses as well. The GRE is a challenging exam, but with proper preparation, you can achieve a good score. Good luck!
